The co-founder of a local chapter of a national organization that seeks to beautify the nation - and who had already spruced up the historic downtown - was honored at the May Good Morning Santa Paula.

Dianne Davis, co-owner with her husband Dudley of Do Right’s Plant Growers, was honored with the Chamber of Commerce Member of the Quarter Award at the event held at Logsdon’s at the Santa Paula Airport. The Chamber-sponsored Good Morning Santa Paula was hosted by Limoneira Company.

Chamber Director of Membership Services Barbara Kroon said, “It’s my pleasure to introduce an exemplary citizen and an amazing company, DoRight’s Plant Growers.... They say a picture says a thousand words and sometimes,” said Kroon, “that refers to the mental picture you take when spend time in, and travel through a town.”

And, she added Do Right’s “has done so much to improve the image of Santa Paula” by creating a picture of beauty and flowers. “The hanging flower baskets and planters downtown are there because of them,” as well as the flowers that decorate the historic Depot and those outside the Santa Paula Police Station. Not only did Do Right’s donate the flowers, but also, “most impressively, they are maintained by Do Right’s.”

Kroon said Dianne Davis first spoke of the America in Bloom project and urged the creation of a chapter in Santa Paula. “Dianne has spearheaded this project and successfully engaged a group of caring” and “well-connected citizens to beautify and present our lovely town in its best possible light.”

To kick off the America in Bloom effort, “They hosted an enormous flower sale to benefit this effort as well as to benefit the Santa Clara Valley Hospice/Home Support Group.... What a great way,” said Kroon, “to raise some seed money!”

America in Bloom has already identified an area of the city where they will launch an ambitious beautification effort. Each year America in Bloom communities of like size throughout the nation engage in a friendly beautification competition.

Kroon thanked Davis “on behalf of the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce, and from the bottom of my heart, for everything you do for this town.”
