Backstage at SPTC (Santa Paula Theater Center) announces their 2010 production of original one act plays collectively known this year as “Acts2Grind: A Slew of One Act Plays” from October 15 through October 30.
The program contains strong language and adult situations and is recommended for mature audiences.
The Stories:
“Once a Week at Best”: Sara and Carl have been getting together for their weekly “no strings attached” trysts for quite a while. Recent events, however, have caused Sara to rethink things and she now puts Carl to the test.
“Burnt”: Jonah unexpectedly visits his estranged father, and a childhood tree house becomes the foreground for Jonah’s need to find a meaningful relationship. This drama explores how to let go and when to hold on.
“Fifty Ways”: A suicidal man, depressed over a break up, has his plans interrupted when an intriguing woman takes sanctuary in his apartment to escape a creepy stalker.
“Hotel Ménage”: Three strangers find themselves having to share a room in a new-age hotel with unconventional policies and a very stubborn and comedic clerk.
“Happy Birthday, Martha”: Martha, a wealthy and controlling matriarch, finds herself at the mercy of her beleaguered husband Arthur, a usually timid man who has concocted a rather unsettling surprise for his wife on her birthday.
Performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 4 p.m. on Sundays. Two special Thursday performances will be presented on October 21 and 28 at 8 p.m.
