Mupu 4-H members Rayanna Rodriguez, Leandra Mijerez, George Lopez, Roberto Lopez, Lesley Veloz and Robert Dyer, along with adult leaders Susy Dyer and Carole Butler, participated in the Coastal Cleanup again this year, continuing their 16-year tradition of working to keep local beaches clean.  Members worked at Oil Piers beach, picking up trash and recyclables in 5 gallon buckets.  This is the first year organizers have asked volunteers to bring their own trash containers to cut down on the number of trash bags used in the statewide clean up.

Mupu 4-H’er Lesley Veloz was doing the Coastal Cleanup for the first time.  She thought it was very fun, but hard work.  Jorge Lopez’s favorite part was going to Joe’s Crab Shack for lunch after cleaning up the beach.  He thought it was a very hot day at the beach, where he found lots of trash, including a can of spray paint and cigarette lighters.  Rayanna Rodriguez had fun climbing on the rocks to find hidden trash.  Leandra Mijares found many weird things like a plastic doll shoe, diapers, a box cutter and lots of cans, bottles and cigarette butts.  2nd grader Roberto Lopez had fun playing with Petey the dog, playing in the sand and using the trash grabbers.  Robert Dyer found a barbeque in the section of beach he cleaned.  At the end of their mission, the 4-H team had gathered over 7 buckets of trash.
