Varsity boys face tough test at Ventura Kiwanis tournament

The boys’ varsity took on Westlake in their final game at last week’s Ventura Kiwanis Tournament.

Despite a valiant effort, Westlake came out on top, beating the Cardinals, 58-43.  Santa Paula, missing several players, still managed to put up a fight, tying the game at one point in the second quarter.  They ended the first half trailing Westlake, 28-22.

Eduardo Jimenez led the scoring for the Cards with 19 points.  He was followed by Taylor Casas, who shot for 17 points.

Santa Paula lost their first game of the tournament to Rio Mesa, 73-52.  In their second game the Cards came up short against Oak Park, losing 64-53. Santa Paula came back in the fourth quarter in their third game to beat Malibu, 62-57.

The boys play their first league game against Malibu this Friday at Malibu.
