Martha L. (John) Jones

Martha L. (John) Jones, 83, passed away peacefully at Kindred Hearts, Clintonville, WI on March 23, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband William (1984) and son Brian (2000).

She was the beloved mother of Bill Jones of Tigerton, WI, Kathy (Irving) Splies of Santa Paula, Sherman Jones of Santa Paula, and Virginia (Chad) Chapin of Tigerton, WI; beloved grandmother of Damian, Dominic and Daniel Diaz of Santa Paula, Elizabeth (Seth) Breitenfeldt of Bonduel, WI, and Douglas Chapin of Tigerton, WI; and beloved great-grandmother of Cyrus, Trinity and Marcus Diaz. Martha is also survived by her brothers Herman (Helene), George, and Robert John of Milwaukee, WI, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha was born November 13, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI. She married William Jones in 1955. Together they raised their children in Phoenix, AZ.

Upon William’s death, Martha moved to Santa Paula to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She returned regularly to Wisconsin, particularly to Summit Lake where she spent her summers as a child. From 1984 until 2000 she sold Fuller Brush and Avon, and was known to many as “Bee.”

She had a deep reverence and love for God, country and family, and through her faith weathered many storms throughout her life. She volunteered for clown ministries and numerous other ways.

A memorial service will be held in Wisconsin, with interment at Ivy Lawn in Ventura.

Ernest Javier Guzman

Ernest Javier Guzman, “Lil-Lil,” age 5, of Ventura, left this world to be with the angels in heaven on March 25, 2011.

He attended kindergarten at Douglas Penfield School. His heart was full of love and his soul was full of music. He loved watching Barney and dancing along with The Wiggles. He was fearless and loved any amusement park ride he could fit on. He was an extremely friendly child and brought joy to everyone he encountered. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his great-great-grandparents, Angel and Caroline Nevarez (Cobos); and great-grandparents, Ernest and Ruth Guzman (Acevedo), and Juan Osorio Olmos and Celia Borrego.

He is survived by his parents, Ernest Angel Guzman and Susie Osorio, and his doggie, Roscoe; grandparents, Ernest and Corinne Guzman; great-grandmother, Evelyn Gloria “Nana” Loza; aunt, Brenda “Nina” Davila (Eddie); grandparents, Cesar and Elena Osorio; great-grandparents, Alberto and Ramona Torres; uncles, Cesar E. Osorio (Lidia) and Cesar A. “Nino” Osorio; aunt, Joanna Osorio (Robert); and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

All services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Rd., Ventura. Visitation for Ernest will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011, with recitation of the ROSARY to begin at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 1, with burial immediately following at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura.

Jesus N. Frutos

“The Chain” has been broken as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Jesus N. Frutos, to many known as “Papa Chuy”, went to join his Creator peaceful on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Jesus was born on December 11, 1925 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and was a lifelong resident of Ventura County making Santa Paula his home for 65 years.

During his time on earth, he worked with various construction companies throughout Southern California, his goal was to own his own business. In 1968 he fulfilled his dream by becoming the owner of Asphalt Laying Service where he lived by his motto: “Quality Work Makes Friends”! Some of our most memorable time were spent at his ranch with family and friends; carnitas every weekend! He loved to make friends, entertaining them with his wonderful stories at local coffee shops. Papa Chuy truly enjoyed life! He was an avid dancer, loved music especially corridos, baladas and boleros and with the strum of his guitar, he could entrain you for hours. A big sports fan, especially boxing; he could name you boxers and their stats of many eras. In his younger years, pool halls throughout Ventura County recognized “Chuy” as an excellent pool player. His side kick was brother in law Leo Valdivia; they are now once again “racking them up!” Let’s not forget that Papa Chuy also liked to play his favorite card game “Five Card Stud” or better known as “Garañona” to his sons, grand kids and friends.

Papa Chuy was preceded in death by his parents Salome and Tomasita Frutos and baby sister Nicolasa Frutos. Because he was orphaned at the age of 9, his Madrina Agustina Frutos who cared for the family, also preceded him in death in 1971.

Jesus is survived by his wife of 62 Consuelo V Frutos and 10 children: Rey (Carmen) of Santa Paula, Anna Maria (bob) Sanchez of Santa Clarita, Ruben (Rosemary) of Santa Paula, Frank (Eileen) of Ventura, Jaime of Santa Paula, Martha (Carl) Dugas of Moorpark, Rosa Maria (Damien) Stehly of Fillmore, Miguel (Dara) of Santa Paula, Raphael (Lupe) of Ventura and Gabriel of Santa Paula. He also leaves behind siblings Celestino (Catalina) Frutos of Tijuana, Amelia Frutos of San Jose and Ruben (Ana Maria) of Tijuana. Papa Chuy was very proud of his 29 grandchildren, his 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He also leaves behind numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces from the Valdivia and Frutos families that he was very fond of.

Papa Chuy’s family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks do Dr. Constantine, Dr. Shrock and all the medical staff both at Santa Paula Hospital and Vista Cove Care Center for their warm and professional care.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 31, 2011, 4 to 7pm a Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm at Skillin-Carroll Memorial Chapel, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, CA. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 N. Oak St., Santa Paula, CA.
