John David Bailey

John David Bailey (J. B.) was born to John and Naomi Bailey on February 18, 1952 in Santa Paula, CA. He died suddenly of natural causes on June 24, 2011.

John was a devoted son, and always supported his family and loved our large family gatherings. He was loved and adored by his numerous friends and family, especially nieces and nephews that always looked forward to seeing him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Alva Bailey and Lester and Jewel Driver. John is survived by his parents, John and Naomi Bailey; siblings Joan Bates (Gary), Steve Bailey (Jan), and Brenda Cummings (Chuck), all of Ventura; niece Sherleen Servin and her children Michael, David and Rachel of Ventura; nephew Bryan Caples (Amy) and their children Jaykob, Zackeree, Madison and Mackenzie of Visalia; nephew Brendan Cummings of Silverdale, WA; niece Sheena Cummings of Albuquerque, NM; plus many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Although John was a lifelong resident of Ventura County, he loved to travel and visited in excess of 50 countries and circumnavigated the globe two times. From an early age he was a promising athlete and scholar. He graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1970 with a full scholastic state scholarship. His greatest athletic achievement was being on the Ventura College tennis team that won the State Championship two years in a row. He also enjoyed many other sports throughout his life, including golf, softball, basketball and skiing. John extended his upper education at UCSB, and Chapman Work Campus Afloat twice.

John’s professional career included management positions at Power One, Inc. and Tetrahex. More recently he worked at Montgomery Wards and ARP.

He had been a member of the Benchwarmer Golf Club and Sunset Hills Country Club.

The viewing and memorial service will be held at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, CA 93060. Viewing will be on Wednesday, June 29 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Walpole at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, followed by a graveside service at the Santa Paula Cemetery, which is also on Santa Paula Street.

John will be deeply missed by all of us.
