Card wrestlers travel to Corona

The Santa Paula wrestling team competed last week at the Shark Tank 64 man bracket Tournament held at Santiago High School in Corona. The tournament had 76 teams from all over the state as well as several from Nevada, Arizona, and Oklahoma.

Santa Paula finished ahead of all the other local schools from our area in 43rd place with a total of 41.5 points. The next closest team was Pacifica High of Oxnard with 30.5 points finished in 48th.  

Santa Paula had one placer at 126 lbs.  Alfredo Sanchez took 6th place with a record of 6-3.  Just missing the medals were Gustavo Castillo at 120 lbs, with a record of 3-2 losing 7-2 in the qualifying medal round match and Ivan Abarca at 152 lbs, losing in the round before with a record of 2-2 by a fall. Santa Paula brought 11 wrestlers total and all had quality matches.
