Dora Fae (Marinis) Light

Our beloved Dora Fae (Marinis) Light, 71, of Ojai, CA passed away suddenly April 6, 2012 from heart failure.

Fae was born on June 5, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Nick Marinis and Zevie Vance Marinis. She was raised in Chapmanville, WV with her twin sister Rae, younger sister Connie and younger brother Sam.

She married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Light on May 25, 1960. She graduated from Marshall University in 1963 and moved to Ojai, CA in 1963 to begin teaching elementary school. She went on to obtain her master’s degree from California Lutheran University. She taught at Barbara Webster Elementary in Santa Paula, California for 25 years, and then moved to McKevett Elementary in Santa Paula to teach until her retirement in 2001.

She took great pride in educating and shaping the lives of the many children that she taught throughout the years. Her passion for teaching continued even after retirement through her gift of sharing.

After her retirement she loved reading, taking drives up the coast, playing slots at the local casino, and watching her favorite shows with her best friend in life Bill. She was a giving, generous and loyal woman who always put the needs of others first.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tom Mathews of Goleta, CA; daughter Robin Light of Oxnard, CA; sister and brother-in-law Rae and Melvin Withrow of Chesapeake, OH; sister Connie Marinis of Chapmanville, WV; and brother and sister-in-law Sam and Brinda Marinis of Ojai, CA; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fae’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a memorial/dedication service planned at a later time.

Should friends and family desire, contributions in her memory may be made to American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate/.

Beverly J. Anderson

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly J. Anderson, 80, of Santa Paula (formerly of Arcadia, CA); she passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George “Jim” Anderson; sister, Audrey Slaton (husband, Jack), son, Ron Anderson, daughter, Pam Rhodes (husband, Scott) and their children Matthew and Allison, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Anderson and her children Brian, Christopher and Lauren.

Born in Pasadena on July 14, 1931, she was preceded in her death by two of her children, William “Scott” Anderson and Sharon Anderson.

Beverly loved her family immensely and was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many.  She attended Pasadena High School, and was a 1953 graduate of Pomona College and also received her master’s degree from Stanford University. A strong proponent of a quality education, she later taught high school history and english in Arcadia and Pasadena high schools and kept up with education groups having been a member of Santa Barbara Pi Lambda Theta, an international honorary education group.  Inducted at Stanford, she was past president of the Pasadena chapter and for years served on the International Travel Committee.  Beverly also had been president of the Pomona Alumnae of San Gabriel Valley and a volunteer at Methodist Hospital, in the Arcadia Assistance League for 35 years, helped with senior citizens and needy school children.  She was always active in her children’s lives and organizations.

In addition to spending time with family, one of her great joys was to travel.  She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip through Poland and the Baltic countries, Russia and Norway.  Her travels took her to South Africa, Zimbabwe, China, Bali, the Philippines and much of the United States and Canada. Perhaps her favorite place to be was at her cabin in the Sequoia National Forest, a place she frequently visited since her childhood.

She and her husband, Jim, called Arcadia home for 42 years where they raised their family and enjoyed peacocks in their beautiful yard.  They later moved to Santa Paula into a new home Beverly designed and enjoyed views of the mountains, ocean and Channel Islands.

Beverly touched many lives as a patient listener, a wise advisor and a personality full of laughter.  She will be missed by all who knew her.  Her warm and caring spirit was an inspiration and will live on in all of us.

A private family ceremony will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village.
