The Ventura County Master Gardeners invite you to the third workshop in the 2012 series “Mastering Your Home Garden” on Saturday, August 18 from 8:15 a.m. to 12 noon at the University of California Hansen Agricultural Center (formerly Faulkner Farm) in Santa Paula.

These workshops present the expertise of Master Gardeners in a lecture and hands-on learning format. There will be opportunity to ask questions, solve problems, and expand gardening knowledge in a beautiful farm setting as well as explore the demonstration and themed gardens of the Hansen Trust. The gardens at any time of the year are well worth the visit.

Two topics will be covered: “Planning and Growing a Cut Flower Garden” and “Creating Beautiful Floral Arrangements.” This third workshop of the year will highlight the efforts of Master Gardeners who began work in the spring to create a demonstration cut flower garden especially for this workshop.

Those attending the workshop will be invited into the garden to harvest flowers and create their own floral arrangement under the guidance of Master Gardener Janet Foy. This hands-on portion of the workshop is optional. Those wishing to participate should visit the Master Gardener website for a list of supplies to bring from home. There will be a $5 charge for materials supplied by the Master Gardeners.

The workshop cost of $25 includes both presentations, continental breakfast, tours of the historic Faulkner home and beautiful demonstration gardens, and the Master Gardener Plant Sale. (Note that the $5 charge for floral arrangement supplies is in addition to the workshop fee of $25.) To register contact Leah Haynes, volunteer coordinator, at 805-320-4134 or 805-645-1450, or visit our website at http://ucanr.org/sites/VCMG.
