70th Birthday bash for SPHS Class of 1960
Members of the Santa Paula High School Class of 1960 gathered for a “Creaky Cardinal’s Crawl” in a four-day event that started on Thursday, September 6 in celebration of their 70th Birthday Bash.
Socializing kicked off Thursday evening with hors d-oeuvres and a welcome reception at the Glen Tavern Inn. Friday’s events included stops at Santa Paula’s Oil Museum and Art Museum, a mural walk led by Wendell Dowling, another gathering at the Glen Tavern Inn, then Cruise Night on Main Street followed by the football game at Pacific High School. Saturday began with a group photo in front of the high school administration building and ended with the reason for the gathering, the 70th Birthday Bash Banquet.
The weekend ended Sunday with a Farewell Continental Brunch at the Glen Tavern Inn. Members of the class were invited to revisit some “high school haunts and hideaways,” a list of 25 businesses frequented during their high school years and bring back the addresses of where they were located – “The first person/couple with the most correct answers… WINS!” – and reminded to take time to reminisce. Some gone but not forgotten included Citizen’s Bank, Kaplan’s Bootery, the Campus Shop, and the Santa Paula Chronicle.
