Santa Paula News

The application period for the Chief of Police recruitment for the City of Santa Paula ended on September 28 2012. The City received applications from twenty-five well-qualified candidates.

The applications will initially be assessed by a panel consisting of Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams, Assistant Ventura County Sheriff John Crombach and District Attorney Greg Totten. This expert panel will evaluate the education, experience, training and qualifications of the applicants and provide a recommendation on which of the candidates are most qualified for the Police Chief position.

The recommended candidates will then meet with an Advisory Panel made up of five community members chosen by members of the City Council. The President of the Police Officers Association will be the sixth member of the Advisory Panel. The Advisory Panel will interview the recommended finalists from a community based point of view. The members of the Advisory Panel will then meet with the City Manager to convey their individual observations regarding each finalist.

After review by the Expert and Advisory Panels, the City Manager will conduct final interviews with recommended candidates. The City Manager intends to take both the Expert and Advisory Panels’ observations, evaluations and recommendations into consideration in making the final selection on the Police Chief position.

Further details regarding the process timelines will be provided at a future date. The Mayor and City Council wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the individuals who have agreed to serve on the Expert Panel as well as the Citizen’s Advisory panel.
