Wayne McPhail

Wayne McPhail was born on April 6, 1971 in Watsonville, CA. He went to the Lord on June 13, 2013.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 at Chapel of the Angels, 6th and Pleasant St., Santa Paula. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Santa Paula.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S. 7th St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.

Wayne was the first child of Earl and Willa McPhail. He was a 34-year resident of Ventura County, spending most of those years in Santa Paula. He attended Santa Clara Elementary School (the Little Red School House) and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1989. He attended Cal Poly, SLO.

Wayne suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1994 in an automobile accident. He worked hard to learn to walk and swim again. He was proud of overcoming so many of the effects of the injury. We were all proud of him for that.

Wayne was the ball manager for the Ventura College Lady Pirates Volleyball Team for many years. He had also volunteered his time at numerous Ventura County Fair horse shows.

He worked for many years on the technical crew for the Santa Paula Theater Center GhostWalk. In 2012, he was one of the ghosts for the annual event, and also had a part in the Santa Paula Theater production of “The Trip to Bountiful.”

Wayne is survived by his parents; his sister, Rachel Moon (husband Phillip Moon); his brother, Adam McPhail (wife Monica McPhail); and his cat, Gretchen. He was Uncle Wayne to his nephew, Noah Moon, and his niece, Rosalie McPhail. He was the uncle who could always be counted on to put in the fresh batteries or find the extension cord.

Wayne was an usher at St. Sebastian Church and a friend to everyone he met. He will be missed.
