Santa Paula News
Anthony Del Rio, 10, and his brothers Andrew, Aaron, and Adam held a garage sale on September 22, and raised $405. to help the New York fire and police departments in the wake of the tragedy on September 11. Del Rios? great-grandfather, Bob Burleson was a firefighter with the Ventura County Fire Department, while their Uncle Wade is a firefighter in Jackson, Wyoming. ?This money that we raised is in memory of the firefighters that lost their lives in New York, and the ones that are working around the clock helping,? said Anthony. The boys turned over the money to the Santa Paula Fire Department that will in turn see that it gets to the right people in New York.?I am only 10 years old,? said Anthony, ?and I do not understand these deaths - I don?t understand the hate others have for America when we are good people from all over the world. But, I do know that we all need to help some way and this is the way my brothers and me could come up with.?
The whole family pitched in to make the garage sale a success, from their mother, Celeste baking cookies to sell, to the students at Glen City who cleaned out their toy boxes and garages.
