By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula Times You’ll have a doggone good time and do good for those who fight cancer and the four-legged caregivers that love them by coming out to support Saturday’s “Bark for Life” at Veterans Memorial Park.
Billed as “A canine event to fight cancer,” the American Cancer Society’s “Bark for Life” will start March 29 with registration at the park at 10 a.m. The $10 registration fee per dog includes a bandana for Fido to wear with pride during the event that benefits Relay for Life Santa Paula and Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center.
The Opening Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the park, located on 10th Street/Highway 150 between Ventura and Main streets.
There will be dog demonstrations, vendor booths, and prizes for best costume, trick and “Most Relay Spirit!”
And speaking of Relay Spirit, the Santa Paula American Cancer Society Relay for Life is the most successful Relay fundraiser, bringing in the highest per capita donations among all of the annual Relay events held in Ventura County.
Santa Paula Relay for Life will be held April 26-27 at Limoneira Soccer Fields.
“Celebrate Remember Fight Back” is the rallying cry of Relay for Life, and “Because cancer never sleeps” teams of Relay participants walk, run, stroll or are pushed around the track for 24 hours straight.
The annual Relay For Life includes a high-energy kickoff, traditional Survivors Lap and poignant Luminaria Ceremony; Sunday is reserved for closing ceremonies.
Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) is Ventura County’s first true no-kill animal shelter where all stray, lost and abandoned dogs and cats-and other animals!-are cared for until they are reunited with their owners or find new, loving “fur-ever” homes.
SPARC’s income is derived from the contract with the City of Santa Paula to handle animal sheltering services and donations.
