Elizabeth Rosalie Rice Elizabeth Rosalie Rice, age 79, of Santa Paula, passed away on October 21, 1999 in Santa Paula. She was born May 10, 1920 in Greenport, New York, and was a Ventura County resident for 25 years.Mrs. Rice was a 1938 graduate of Greenport High School. She attended North West Medical Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and interned in Peduka, Kentucky. Upon completion she lived in East Marion, New York, and worked for Greenport and Riverhead Hospitals.In 1958 she moved to California, and that same year married Harley Rice, retired chief petty officer of the U.S. Navy, and they resided in Canoga Park. She worked as a lab and x-ray technician for Dr. Zdenek in Reseda for 15 years.Mrs. Rice had a love of cats, and especially enjoyed raising Persians. She also enjoyed dancing and singing.She is survived by daughter Patricia (Dale) Vincent of Oxnard; adopted daughter Roxanne Rute; granddaughter Tiffany (Tom) Spagnola, Jr. and great granddaughters Amber and Kayla Spagnola, all of Paso Robles; and brothers Stanley J. Rutkowski of East Marion, New York, and Anthony J. Wisowaty of Greenport, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband Harley in 1963.Memorial services will be held Friday, October 29 at 1 p.m. at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 22601 Lassen St., Chatsworth.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Willard L. GladdenWillard L. Gladden, age 84, of Santa Paula, passed away on October 24, 1999 in Santa Paula. Born October 7, 1915 in Louisburg, Missouri, he was a Ventura County resident for six years, coming from Hollywood.Mr. Gladden worked for the dairy business for many years, working in dairies in Santa Paula, Camarillo and El Monte. He then worked for Crocker-Citizen National Bank, retiring after 15 years of service.He is survived by his sister, Alice Harmon of Santa Paula; brother Jim (his wife Jane) Gladden of Porterville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Rosa, his brother Lloyd, and his sister Mildred.A service was held October 26 at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Dr. Edward R. Mitchell of Santa Barbara officiating, with interment following at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Maria YzaguirreMaria Yzaguirre, age 94, of Piru, passed away on October 24, 1999 in Santa Paula. She was born on October 7, 1905 in Mexico, and was a Ventura County resident for 63 years.Mrs. Yzaguirre was a member of the Sacred Heart Society in Piru, a member of the Guadalupañas, and a homemaker.She enjoyed gardening, keeping up with current affairs, and reading, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family. The love that showed to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was through her hands by cooking, feeding, knitting. The warmth of her smile, sitting around the kitchen table watching her make quesadillas and her homemade flour tortillas with lemon and salt, will be greatly missed.She is survived by her children, Eliceo "Alex" (wife Catalina) of Santa Paula, Santiago "Jim" (wife Carmen) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ted (wife Frances) of Ventura, Victor (wife Dee) of Ventura, Margaret Yzaguirre of Los Angeles, and Carlos "Felix" of Piru; 27 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; niece Lupe Gonzalez of Eagle Rock; former daughter-in-law Virginia Yzaguirre of Arleta; former son-in-law John Yateem of Glendale; and Shorty. She was preceded in death by her husband Mateo, daughter Mary, and granddaughter Raquel.Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, October 28 at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, with a vigil at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Paula.Funeral mass will be said on Friday, October 29 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Santa Paula, with interment to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.
