Each petition signature - there were over 1,400 - for Adams Canyon Agricultural Preservation (ACAP) will have to be verified individually, said Salas, as the sample of valid signatures was too close to call and all signatures will have to be matched to voter registration records.Scott Anderson of Del Financial of Santa Paula is still gathering signatures on his initiative to develop a 32.5 acre parcel at the northwest corner of Peck and Foothill roads.To qualify for the November ballot, 1,065 of registered Santa Paula voters must sign the petitions.Anderson is taking advantage of the deadline extension for handing in petitions granted by the county after it was learned that petitions being circulated in the City of Ventura had a May 28 deadline. For the November 2000 election, the Santa Paula petition deadline was May 23.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesSo far, one of the three pending measures governing land-use has made the grade to qualify for the November ballot, according to City Clerk Steven Salas.On Friday, the Ventura County Elections Division-Clerk’s Office said that the initiative sponsored by The Pinnacle Group of Arizona to develop about 5,400 acres in Adams Canyon has enough valid signatures of registered voters to be placed on the Nov. 5 ballot. The petitions were handed in on May 15 with over 1,600 signatures, said Kimberly Lucero of Tom Tomlin Associates, the Ranch at Santa Paula public relations firm.Supporters of a competing measure to strengthen Measure I, approved by voters two years ago and sponsored by Save Open-Space & Agricultural Resources (SOAR), was about two weeks behind The Pinnacle Group in signature gathering and has not yet been qualified by the county’s clerk’s office, Salas said Monday morning.
