Two separate accidents days apart left several people injured as well as two drivers cited for driving without a license, according to a Santa Paula Police Department official.

Ismael Cordero, the first accident occurred on Wednesday, May 29, at about 7:30 p.m. when an underage female was at the wheel of a vehicle traveling westbound in the 200 block of East Santa Paula Street.The unidentified driver, who had several passengers in the vehicle, “caused an accident by following a van,” too closely. “When the van suddenly stopped, the underage driver attempted to avoid a collision; she swerved to the right,” striking another vehicle attempting a left turn onto Dean Drive. The unlicensed driver’s car then went over the curb and onto a front lawn.One of the unlicensed driver’s passengers, also a juvenile, received minor injuries.The driver of the struck vehicle, Sophia Vasquez, 31 of Santa Paula, was not injured.
The unlicensed driver was cited for driving without a license; the accident is still under investigation, said Sgt. Cordero.The second accident occurred in the 10th Street/Harvard Boulevard Boulevard intersection on Friday, May 31 at about 11 a.m.Sgt. Cordero said Miguel Montero, 31 of Santa Paula, was eastbound on Harvard Boulevard and attempting to make a left turn onto 10th Street.Sgt. Cordero noted that “Montero made a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle,” and his 1988 Hyundi was struck broadside by a westbound 1983 Dodge Ram van driven by Manolo Rodriguez, 47 of Santa Paula.Montero complained of pain to his chest and right knee and was transported by ambulance to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. Rodriguez had a minor injury and complained of head pain.Montero was cited for being an unlicensed driver and failure to yield to oncoming traffic, said Sgt. Cordero.
