Lady Cards miss with Nordhoff but shut down the Saints

The Lady Cardinal soccer teams had a mixed week last week, losing to Nordhoff, but beating Santa Clara. The Santa Paula varsity was plagued with injuries and the flu and were outplayed and dominated by last years Frontier League champions. Raquel Gonzalez registered 22 saves as goalkeeper for the Cards, a new, single game record. Nordhoff went on to win 6-0.The Cardinal JV fared a little better, losing to the Rangers, 2-0. Santa Paula saw solid play from Athena Cabral at forward and Charlie Gonzalez as central defender.Playing against Santa Clara Friday, the Lady Cardinal varsity came out in full force to take a 6-0 win.A strong defense gave up no shots to the Saints. Janice Alamillo scored two goals in the first half on an assist by Lizzy Aquino and Gretta Strautman.
The four other goals came in the second half. Claire Powers scored twice, once on an assist from Raquel Gonzalez and a second time off an assist from Strautman; Struatman scored one on her own; and, Charlie Gonzalez scored on an assist from Jennifer Hernandez.Santa Clara has no JV team.
