It’s was fun, it was fascinating and it was free! It was FarmFest 2003 - a full day of fun and learning for the entire family at the Hansen Agricultural Learning Center at Faulkner Farm in Santa Paula on Saturday. The event, which was designed to celebrate agriculture, education and community, featured interesting and exciting activities to appeal to every age group. Included in the day of festivities was demonstration gardens, petting zoo, spinning, weaving and quilting demonstrations, food booths, live music, and tours of the beautiful historic Faulkner House by costumed docents. Children and parents were delighted in the farm animals and petting zoo. Above, these two young men got a chance, with a little help from mom, to learn how to milk a cow. The cow was a wooden replica painted to look like a cow with rubber medical gloves as a substitute for the cows udder. The boys squeezed and squeezed until they learned how to make the water squirt into a bowl. This was just one of the hands on exhibits at FarmFest 2003. Photo by Don Johnson
