Mayor John Procter, Councilman Rick Cook and Councilwoman Mary Ann Krause as well as Fillmore City Councilman Ernie Villegas were also in attendance, dressed “West” to reflect the party’s theme.“All that are here are supports of the club and its services for our youth. . .think of your auction bids as investments in our kids and their futures in leading happy, productive lives. Be very generous tonight; it will pay off in dividends for our youth,” said Nasalroad.Marsha Rae, who co-chaired the event with Mike Jump, urged the crowd to “raise you bid cards high, wide and often!”Carmen Carrillo, the Harvard Boulevard club site director and club member and program helper Jose Salcedo spoke about the advantages to youth that membership provides. There was a surprise visit by Santa Claus, a.k.a. Police Chief Bob Gonzales, and his hearty “Ho-ho-hos!” readied the crowd for the auction.
“People are here tonight because they believe in our kids, believe in their dreams and want to make their dreams come true,” said Club Chief Professional Officer Pat Zwagerman.Auctioneer Walt Fisher of Bakersfield was assisted by Arnie Dowdy and Peggy Kelly for the fast and furious bidding.John Macik/Santa Paula Chevrolet kept a firm grip on the annual auction’s “Most Prestigious Table” purchasing it again for next year and City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz proved that he’s no cheap date as the bidding went higher and higher for a date with the bachelor. The Firehouse Dinner, a delight for kids of all ages, went quickly as did a Christmas Quilt by Christine Tonello and a South Mountain wall hanging by Becky Eaton and her daughter Heidi. Hause, President/CEO of Santa Clara Valley Bank will soon be heard announcing the time with morning radio pranksters Dave & Bob and Norma Emery again donated a special occasion gourmet meal in memory Annie Bates, her former partner in preparing this popular annual auction item. One item that everyone won was Stand Up for Kids, with most of the crowd getting to their feet to sponsor an annual membership in the Positive Place for Kids.
