There was plenty of work to go around when Mayor Gabino Aguirre announced the appointments to the Mayor’s Standing Committees at the Jan. 5th meeting.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThere was plenty of work to go around when Mayor Gabino Aguirre announced the appointments to the Mayor’s Standing Committees at the Jan. 5th meeting.Aguirre said he polled council members prior to the appointments to an array of city, county and state committees as “my purpose was not to reassign, but keep intact as possible. I didn’t hear much complaint or concern about assignments,” although some changes were made according to council wishes.Councilman John Procter was named to the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau while Aguirre – a Moorpark high school principal – and Councilman Ray Luna will serve on a City Council/Santa Paula Elementary School District joint committee.Luna is also the council liaison to the Recreation Commission, with Councilman Rick Cook the alternate.The Santa Paula Basin Pumpers Association has Vice Mayor Mary Ann Krause as the member along with Cliff Finley, the city’s public works director/city engineer.
County standing committees have Aguirre on the Animal Regulation Commission and Aguirre’s and Krause’ council status garnered them seats as member and alternate respectively on the Association of Ventura County Cities. Aguirre will also serve on The Children & Family First Commission of Ventura County/Children’s Services Network.Krause was named to the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) with Procter the alternate member. Procter is the member and Aguirre the alternate on the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District Advisory Committee. Krause is the member and Procter the alternate for the Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County.Cook retained his seat on the Ventura Regional Sanitation District and Krause is the alternate. The Ventura County Transportation Commission, whose Executive Director is Santa Paula resident Ginger Gherardi, has Procter as the member and Luna as the alternate, an assignment switched for the VCTC Vista/Highway 126 Committee with Luna as member and Procter the alternate.Krause is the member and Luna the alternate to the county’s only Ad Hoc Standing Committee, the Ventura County Airport Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) Update Advisory Committee.Aguirre and City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz are joint action members of the State Standing Committee, California League of Cities Liaison for State Senator Pete Knight and Assemblymember Tony Strickland.Aguirre and Bobkiewicz will also serve as member and alternate respectively for the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority.
