The Cardinal boys’ soccer team lost out in the first round of the CIF playoffs over the weekend, losing to Pasadena Poly 5-0. The game was played at Pasadena on a wet and slippery field. Three starters were injured in the early minutes of the game. Coach Manny Elizarraraz said that the field was also smaller than the boys are used to playing on. He added that a series of mistakes also plagued the team. “The momentum of mistakes put them in a hole that was hard to get out of,” he said.“Overall they started off the year real good, added Elizarraraz.” The team was 9-1 midway through the season. “But then things started falling apart and that carried on through the season,” he noted. The Cardinal boys ended the season with a 14-7 record. Elizarraraz says he has seven starters returning next year and expects a good season.
