Chamberlain described the coordination between the city and the chamber on economic issues including the SPARKS initiative, “seven ideas to kick start the economy of Santa Paula” including the creation of portable murals to dress up vacant storefronts.The former Tower Theater building is the focus of a beautification effort led by Chamber President Anna Marie Manzano and graphic artist Howard Bolton: “It’s going to be transformed” to its movie palace looks of long ago with murals, noted Chamberlain.The historic Downtown Business District is being improved and the new DT implementation study has resulted in a “great plan.”Green Street Alley will be redone as a Paseo and the former Main Street plumbing building is slated to be “transformed into small stores” that could offer Latino arts and crafts.“When you develop small things they act as a catalyst,” Chamberlain noted.Business attraction is also being concentrated on as well as making sure that present Santa Paula enterprises are given the opportunity to flourish including as a “tourism destination.”The chamber communications committee will help development easier, and “although the image of Santa Paula is getting better,” improvement is still needed. “The image must be polished outside the city,” to attract visitors and new businesses.“I have the benefit of working with economic development both on city and chamber committees,” Chamberlain noted, and the city overall benefits from “a lot of wonderful talented people in the chamber.”John Macik/Santa Paula Chevrolet provides the chamber award plaques.

The Public Employee of the Quarter and one of the Chamber of Commerce’s own were lauded at the May Good Morning Santa Paula!
By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe Public Employee of the Quarter and one of the Chamber of Commerce’s own were lauded at the May Good Morning Santa Paula!Held at Logsdon’s at the Santa Paula Airport, the chamber-sponsored GMSP! was also hosted by the business organization.Eden Alomeri of the City of Santa Paula Finance Department received the Public Employee of the Quarter Award, presented by Finance Director Tina Rivera.“Eden was selected over a fantastic group of individuals, she’s one of a kind, a combination of Wonder Woman and the Mona Lisa,” noted Rivera.The “extremely versatile” Alomeri processes checks and billings and works with customers at the counter among other duties, noted Rivera.“And she does all this never losing her warm and welcoming smile. I like knowing that anytime I need anything I can go to Eden and she able to help willingly. We’re very fortunate to have her and I’m very proud to have her in the finance department,” Rivera said.A Santa Paula staffer for seven years, Alomeri said that her “pride and joy is saying to people who ask that I work in Santa Paula. I want to share this award with my coworkers and my husband who is always supporting me in whatever I do.”John Chamberlain was honored as the Chamber Member of the Month for his “excellent efforts in economic development both with the chamber and the city,” said Frank Brommenschenkel
