Varsity boys take consolation round in Fillmore

The Cards lost their first game of the Fillmore Tournament to Hillcrest Christian 50-46. The boys came back in the second game to beat Nordhoff 43-36. The Cardinals took off to an early lead, with an 18-6 edge at the end of the first quarter. They maintained their lead, going into halftime with a 30-18 lead. The Rangers couldn’t overcome the Santa Paula defense, losing the ball frequently to the Cards.In the final consolation game, Santa Paula met up with a team from Santa Ynez High School. The Cards dominated the floor from the beginning, as Coach Joey Ramirez alternated the five players on the floor with five from the bench, wearing down Santa Ynez. The Cards won the game 69-38. Santa Ynez could only get within six points with Santa Paula leading 19-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals led 39-24 at the half time break. By the end of the third quarter Santa Paula led 50-30.
