By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula TimesPutting a face on Santa Paula and having fun while doing it has prompted the Branding Contest for residents to choose their favorite new logo to reflect what the Glen City is really all about and, if they choose, help fund the 4th of July Fireworks. “We’re in the process of selecting a brand image that will represent our community,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz of the public effort to select a brand image of Santa Paula.A brand image is one that “stays in your mind, reminding you of Santa Paula’s best qualities” by capturing the essential sum and substance of the city. This competition is the latest effort to define Santa Paula’s brand, and dovetails off of last year’s Image Contest, developed by a team of professional graphic artists. The selected image will be featured on signage and in brochures, among other places, where the city can offer its memorable brand.Bobkiewicz said that the unique contest stems from “trying to be creative and have a little fun” at the same time, while determining just what image residents prefer. The branding competition offers four different images, including one with the city’s name in vintage type enclosed within an oval also featuring a small airplane in flight, as well as the produce representing the area’s top industry. Another image uses a stain-glassed window effect and features the city’s name below a cluster of area crops.
Voting in the Branding Contest serves a dual purpose, as one option is to vote by money, placing cash in the jar at downtown banks for the favorite image. All vote funds collected will go towards the 4th of July Fireworks celebration, an event that narrowly escaped cancellation by the cash-strapped city.Residents can vote for the image they like most through Friday, March 18, either by using the jars or attending the March 16 Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce Mixer at the California Oil Museum from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Voters can also go online by sending emails to info@ci.santa-paula.ca.us.Further information on the contest – including all the Branding Contest entries - can be found on the city’s website: www.ci.santa-paula.ca.us.
