Gene Marzec’s art focus of BCL exhibit, new officers to be selected

Noted Santa Paula artist Gene Marzec is being featured at Blanchard Community Library, sponsored by the Santa Paula Society of the Arts.

The works of the SPSA featured Artist Marzec will remain on display until May 2, said Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA.Talented in both oils and watercolors, Marzec has selected 22 of his favorites for the display at the library, located at 119 N. 8th Street. “His family and patrons have loaned him some of the works,” but several are for sale, said Gunderson. Marzec is known for outdoor scenes done in a realistic style with California plein air influences.Marzec now has more time for painting since he retired from the Blanchard Community Library’s Board of Trustees, an elected position he held for many years. Marzec’s works have been widely exhibited, and he has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Santa Paula Art & Photography Exhibit sponsored by the SPSA.The last exhibit garnered 14 sales among the 300-plus artists who entered the juried competition. Santa Clara River Valley collectors acquired a majority of the artwork purchased at the 68th annual exhibit, said Gunderson.
Gunderson said that the April 10 meeting of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts would feature the election of officers. Gunderson, a former SPSA president, is nominated for the society’s top job; Vice President Judy Dressler; Recording Secretary Nancy Cope; Corresponding Secretary Lynda Gruber; and Treasurer Jean Yarbrough.The current SPSA Members at Large are Madeline Ricards, George Appel and Louise Saviers. Fourth Member at Large will be nominated from the floor at the April 10 general meeting.Visit the Depot Gallery (963 E. Santa Barbara St.) and the SPSA Gift Shop, where a variety of unique items, ranging from paintings to magnets to one of a kind greeting cards, are on sale.
