June 08, 2005
Santa Paula High School
The Santa Paula High School Theater Team, under the direction of advisors Basil Augustine (director) and Cico Yzaguirre (sets and lighting), is presenting the musical comedy “Once Upon A Mattress” and this will be the last weekend. This comedy take-off of the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea” was a Broadway smash hit starring Carol Burnett, with music by Mary Rodgers, the daughter of the famed composer Richard Rodgers. Dancing, singing and acting in this opening showcase production in Santa Paula High School’s newly renovated Freeman Eakin Auditorium will be 30 to 40 talented students from SPHS, Isbell and McKevett schools. Ed Roina will be conducting the high school orchestra, accompanied at the keyboard by SPESD choral director Donna Nelson. Choreographing the show is McKevett’s Kristy Crisp, and SPHS teacher Pam Thompson is lending her talents to vocal training of the young actors. You can catch “Once Upon A Mattress” at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings June 10 and 11. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and $2 for children 8 and under. Above, Queen Aggravain and her court invite you to see the SPHS play this weekend. Right, King Sextimus the silent (a.k.a. Justin Reyes) commands you to stop by this weekend. Courtesy Photos
