23rd annual California Strawberry Festival seeks poster art entries

A plentiful strawberry season may be behind us but the 23rd Annual CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL is ripe with opportunity for artists and creative types.

A plentiful strawberry season may be behind us but the 23rd Annual CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL is ripe with opportunity for artists and creative types. Entries are currently being accepted for the 2006 annual poster contest with the submission deadline set for January 6, 2006.Paying tribute to California’s rich agricultural heritage and benefiting various charities, the CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL held each May in Oxnard ranks among the nation’s top outdoor celebrations and the official poster is the preeminent showcase of the heralded event.Artisans of all ages may put their talents to the test in any preferred medium but the finished product must be reproduction compatible. The committee selecting the winner is looking for an eye-catching image to capture the look and feel of the weekend event that attracts thousands with its festive array of entertainment, delicious foods, Fine Arts & Crafts, and family fun. A collection of Festival posters throughout the decades is available for viewing at the official website www.strawberry-fest.org .The first place winner will receive a check for $1,500 and be the featured guest of honor at press luncheon announcement in February. Original designs and all rights of the winning design will belong to the CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL. In addition to the official poster, the winning design will be used in advertisements and printed on collectible T-shirts and various promotional items. A check for $300 goes to both second and third place winners.All finished art work for consideration must be 16” wide and 17” high, centered and mounted on a black matte board 18” wide and 19” high. Names and contact information should be easily viewed on the back. It is not necessary to include the name of the Festival in the rendition. Entries can be mailed or hand delivered to the Festival office at CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL (1661 Pacific Avenue #15, Oxnard, CA 93033; phone 805-385-4739).
Top winners will be notified by January 13, 2006. All posters must be picked up between January 13-20, 2006 as they will not be returned.Originating in 1984, the CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL is a non-profit corporation that pays homage to the region’s stellar strawberry industry while giving back to the community through fundraising efforts now exceeding $2 million dollars to charities, with scholarships, allocations and grants bettering the community, bolstering tourism and instilling a sense of community pride.
