Art is truly a family affair: An unusual mother-daughter team of artists will be showing their works as the Santa Paula Society of the Arts “Featured Artists” for a two month period. The watercolor works of Clarissa Parry and daughter Vanessa will be showcased on the Douglas Shively Memorial Wall Gallery at Blanchard Community Library from April 29th through June 24th.The mother and daughter art team are new members of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, said Virginia Gunderson, the society’s incoming president. In fact, Clarissa Parry has jumped right in to the behind the scenes workings of the arts society and is the incoming recording secretary. And, the two are “Preparing works that are a new approach for an art show,” added Gunderson. “They don’t just paint together, they plan and execute the same painting,” with both adding to the design and the actual applying of the medium to the paper. “It is a very novel approach,” that just might lead the creation of a new category - works of parent and child - at the annual art competition at the Ventura County Fair. The Parrys are in process of requesting such a category be added to the fair competition. The Parrys have numerous watercolors that will be displayed at the library, located at 119 N. 8th St.
Blanchard Community Library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Artworks by SPSA members can also be viewed at The Mill Gallery, First Western Bank and the offices of Hospice of Santa Clara Valley. The SPSA will be installing new officers at their May 14th meeting to be held at the Clubhouse in Santa Paula West Annex, 265 Beckwith Road.
