Ruth Margaret Lewis Ruth Margaret Lewis, 88 of Santa Paula, passed away Friday, August 11, 2006 at the Santa Paula Hospital with her family at her side following a lengthy illness.Ruth, the youngest of four, was born on the Silvester family ranch overlooking Mono Lake in Lee Vining, CA on July 15, 1918 to Albert and Alice Silvester. She was a Santa Paula resident for 44 years. In 1941, Ruth and her husband Bob met at a dance in Los Angeles where Ruth told Bob she would be happy to teach him how to dance. After two years of courtship they danced happily through 65 years of marriage. After Ruth and Bob were married, they moved back to Lee Vining where they raised their son Glen. While in Lee Vining, Ruth worked in the Post Office and later became the Post Master. After moving to Santa Paula she went to work for United Water Conservation for 18 years.Ruth’s greatest joy was her family and friends, she especially enjoyed her great granddaughters. She loved telling stories about the early days of Mono Lake and growing up in Lee Vining, hiking and fishing. When her grandchildren were small she and grandpa took them someplace camping every summer. Lisa and Scott have special fond memories of camping on the Rincon Beach. Ruth had a green thumb and enjoyed raising Orchids and African Violets, hiking and fishing.She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Robert “Bob” Lewis; son and daughter-in-law Glen and Cheryl Lewis of Santa Paula; grandchildren Lisa Lewis of Camarillo and Scott (wife Dani) Lewis of Santa Paula; great granddaughters Mychaela, Emma and Angelique; sister Hilda Treadwell of Redding; niece Judy Treadwell; nephews Bill Silvester and Doug Treadwell and numerous other family members and friends.A graveside service will take place Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Santa Paula Cemetery, 308 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula. In lieu of flowers you may make remembrances in Ruth’s name to the Santa Paula Hospice, 133 N. Mill St., Santa Paula, CA 93060, (805) 525-1333, or to a favorite charity.Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA, (805) 642-8134.Mary Lillie LockneyMary Lillie Lockney, 97, passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 11, 2006 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Mary Lillie Chambers, but always went by the name of Lillie. Lillie’s place of birth was Sierra Blanca, Texas on May 15, 1909. She married Problem Lockney on December 3, 1927, and they started a family in New Mexico. The family moved to California in 1958, and eventually settled in Santa Paula.Lillie was a skilled and well-loved LVN. She worked at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital the first day it opened, and worked there for approximately five years. She retired from Santa Paula Healthcare on Main Street in July of 1991 after 31 years of dedicated service to the community.Lillie is survived by daughters Lannette Wallace of Oroville, CA, and Myrlene (husband Ruben Sanchez of Santa Paula; and a brother, James (wife Pat) Chambers of Hobbs, New Mexico. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Ronnie Wallace (wife Jayme), Bobby Melton, Ilene (husband Bob) Harper, and Terry Carter; great-grandchildren, Bill Adolf, Bobby Adolf (wife Natalie), Jenna Melton, Taylor Melton, and Nicole Rozan; and great-great grandchildren Tristen Wood and Kyle Wood.She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Myrtle Chambers of Kermit, Texas, and a sister, Jo Dorsey, also of Kermit, Texas.Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Stetler’s Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held in the Chapel at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura on Wednesday, August 16 at 11 a.m.Arrangements are under the direction of the Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.
