Charles Gardner Charles Gardner passed away June 6, 2007. He grew up in Santa Paula and was class of 1967 at Santa Paula High. He leaves a legacy that honors God and His family.His first concern throughout his life and even in his death was that his friends and family know the life-transforming power of Jesus Christ. John 11:25-26, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me shall never die.’”Chuck’s memorial service was held Sunday, June 10, at Grace Chapel in Lancaster. McKown, 87, of Ventura, passed away Wednesday, June 6, after a brief two-month illness.Helen was born on April 17, 1920 in Harrison, Arkansas to Rev. Albert Copeland and his wife, Caroline. Helen had been a Ventura County resident for 68 years, after moving here from San Saba, Texas.She worked at the local citrus packinghouse. Some of Helen’s hobbies included listening to Christian music and reading about heroes of the faith, and entertaining her family on holidays and birthdays, but a lot of her time was devoted to caring for her husband, Buster McKown, before his death in 1999.Helen was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Albert Copeland, and mother Caroline of El Cajon; five sisters, Ollie, Lou, Billie, Esther and Ruby; three brothers, Thelmon, Albert Jr. and Ervin; and her loving husband of 62 years, Buster McKown.She is survived by daughter Wretha (Leo) Huber of Santa Paula; son William Ronald McKown of Ventura; six grandchildren, Leonore Young of Santa Paula, Karen Posada of Fillmore, Rhonda Munoz of Ohio, Sheryl Landers of North Carolina, Ronald Paul McKown of Russia, and Frank Huber of Moorpark; and ten great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Fleenor of Alaska, Benjamin Munoz of Ohio, Alesandria Posada of Fillmore, Hunter Young of Santa Paula, Jessica Fleenor of North Carolina, Nicholas Posada of Fillmore, Maxim McKown of Russia, Braden Huber of Moorpark, Michaela Munoz of Ohio, and William Landers of North Carolina.A graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 12 at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements were under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, 525-3391.Tina Lanette BradyTina Lanette Brady, 45, of Santa Paula, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness, with her family members by her side. Tina was born in Santa Paula on March 3, 1962, and was a lifelong resident of Ventura County.Tina was a medical records processor at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. The most important thing in Tina’s life was her family, followed by cooking for her family and friends. She also liked to play bingo and work crossword puzzles. Tina was a real joy at family gatherings when the family was around for a reunion.Tina was preceded in death by her grandparents. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Eddie Brady, Jr.; daughter Ashley Brady; her son, Duane “Buddy” Brady; her mother, Linda (husband Jerry) Covert of Sacramento; her father, David Dixon of Santa Paula; her sister Mandy (husband Richard) Jones of Ventura; her brother, Terry Dixon of Ventura; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, with the funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Jose (Joe) Cabral
Jose (Joe) Cabral, 38, of Santa Paula, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 after a tragic car accident.Joe was born on August 26, 1968 in Ventura to Jesus and Christina Cabral. He graduated from Fillmore High School and two years at Ventura College.Joe worked in the maintenance department for the local college district. He especially loved hockey games and listening to music.Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Christina, in 1981.Joe is survived by his father, Jesus Cabral; sisters, Theresa (husband Marty) Adams, Karen Fleming and family, and Kathy Atkins and family; nieces Janelle Adams and Candace Farrar and nephew Tyler Adams; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Skillin-Carroll Chapel, 738 E. Santa Paula Street. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church, 437 N. 9th St. in Santa Paula.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula, 525-3391.Benjamin (Benjie) HernandezBenjamin (Benjie) Hernandez, 69, of Santa Paula, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at his residence after a one-year illness, with his family by his side. Mr. Hernandez was born on February 21, 1938 in Santa Paula, and was a lifelong resident.Benjie attended school in Santa Paula, and then worked in the construction industry through the union, Local #585.Mr. Hernandez was proud of his family and the time he spent with them and his many friends. He enjoyed playing the guitar for family and friends, and the time he spent watching all kinds of sports.Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Juliana Hernandez; brothers, Anacleto Hernandez, Tony Hernandez, Mike Hernandez, Frank Hernandez, and David Hernandez; and sisters, Connie Vega and Teresa Mejano.Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Paula Hernandez; his children, Benjie Hernandez and Julie (husband Joe) Dugas; grandchildren, Ben Hernandez and Ronnie Sanchez; sisters, Juana Garcia and Victoria Hernandez; and brother Sal Hernandez.Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14 fro 1 to 5 p.m. at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, with the rosary at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 427 N. Oak St., Santa Paula.
