Trygve Ingolf Forland March 29, 1925 – October 26, 2007Trygve Ingolf Forland was beloved by his family, friends and patients. Born in Haugesund, Norway, he emigrated to the USA and New York City in 1929, the day of the stock market crash. He loved being a Norwegian, and was proud to become an American.Even as a little boy, he had a burning passion to become an orthopedic surgeon. With his quick mind, he was accepted into medical school at the age of 18. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa.Tryg worked for Group Health Cooperative in Seattle for 24 years before moving to Santa Paula and opening a private practice. Many of his adoring patients credit him for their full recovery and being able to walk again. He was extremely proud that no one ever contracted an infection during surgery, and was a great problem solver and diagnostician in the operating room.Trygve loved art and became a tireless collector and philanthropist, sponsoring a large art mural in Santa Paula and supporting the Society of the Arts. He was a voracious reader, and thoroughly enjoyed drawing, telling stories, making funny faces with his granddaughters, dancing, finding the humor in all things in a dry quick way, playing poker with the other doctors, and generally just enjoyed life and people.Trygve is survived by brother Erling; daughters, Sue (husband Bob) Minahan, Becky Forland, and Nancy Barci; son Thomas Forland; granddaughters, Angela Storey, Sarah Storey, and Kristin Jones; cousins, Dave Ostrem and Per; and nephews and nieces, Kathy, Rafe, Lee, David, Daniel, Chris, Steven and Jill.He died peacefully at home in Santa Paula of acute aortic stenosis. Burial was scheduled on Tuesday, October 30 at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. There will be a memorial at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 17 at Skillin Carroll Mortuary. Box 365, all in Santa Paula, CA 93061; or the charity of your choice.Trygve had a great life… a life well lived.Nancy Marie ClementNancy Marie Clement, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2007. She was at home with her family by her side.She was born on October 24, 1939 in Dallas, Texas. She was a resident of Ventura County for over 60 years.Mrs. Clement worked as a caseworker for the County of Ventura Human Services Agency. Spending time with her grandchildren made her extremely happy. She also loved her cat, Baby Doll, and going out to breakfast and shopping with her family.Her family was her life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and as a single mother raised three children on her own.Mrs. Clement is survived by her children, Jody (Robert) Howard, Barry Clement, and Wendy (Phil) Archambault; four grandchildren, Evan and Jillian Howard, and Bethany and Christian Archambault; and two brothers, Jerry (Trish) Begley and Ron (Sharon) Begley.Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 1 at 11 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road. Robert Brogan“Bob” Brogan died peacefully in his sleep in Santa Paula on Wednesday night, October 24.Bob was born in Emporia, Kansas on September 27, 1939 to Helen and Carl Brogan. He was the third of four children.
At six weeks of age he was train-bound to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he grew up and nurtured his lifelong love of big skies, desert vistas, and spicy New Mexico green chili. He attended New Mexico Military Institute for six years, then the University of New Mexico, where he met Nancy. They married after a brief courtship and promptly settled in Los Angeles, where Bob attended Mortuary College.While working at Carroll Funeral Home, he and Nancy bought The Santa Paula Flower Shop in 1968. He went on to own and operated two other flower shops, a hardware store, and several video stores. He was a private pilot, and enjoyed flying many trips for Newhall Land and Farming executives.Bob loved to fish, and “opened” Lake Crowley many a year. He will be remembered by all that knew him for his wonderful quick wit and Irish charm. Bob will be missed!Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters P. Kaye “Crickett” Stenshol and Shelley Rounds of Santa Paula; son Rob Brogan of Medford, Oregon; grandchildren Dylan and Stevi Rieder, Ashley and Maegan Wilson, Ace Rounds and Samantha Rieder; sister Sally McLeod of Albuquerque; and brothers Carl of La Grange, GA and Bill of Alamogordo, NM.Our family thanks our wonderful friends for all their love and many kindnesses during Bob’s lengthy illness.William Lloyd “Bill” BrownWilliam Lloyd “Bill” Brown, 89, died October 27, 2007 in Ojai. Mr. Brown was born in Vinita, Oklahoma to William Lee and Ara Della Brown on January 14, 1918.Bill’s parents moved their five daughters and 4-year old son to California in 1922. The family first moved to Selma, before finally settling in Palo Alto.Bill graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City. He met his future wife, Velda May Baldwin, in Palo Alto. Due to a job transfer the couple moved to Santa Maria, where they were married May 11, 1941.In December 1942, Bill was called to serve in World War II, and shipped overseas in the summer of 1943. He served in London, England under the British Army for a short time and survived frequent VI or “buzz bombs” dropped throughout London during the war.His first assignment, however, was as a dispatch rider. Bill dashed around England on a Norton motorcycle, delivering important messages regarding the war. Toward the end of World War II, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and worked on the development of Operations Overlord, the code name for the Battle of Normandy.On Christmas Eve 1945, Bill returned home to his wife and 3-year old daughter. In 1960, Howard Quick hired Bill as an office manager for Quick Plumbing Company in Ojai. Bill bought the business in 1965, and Bill and Velda ran the business for 24 years until their son took it over in 1989.Bill joined the Ojai Masonic Lodge No. 663 F. & A.M. in 1967, and then was a member of Channel Islands Lodge No. 214 F. & A.M. in Ventura when the two lodges consolidated.Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ara Della, and his five sisters, Delpha Hendrickson, Etha Donaldson, Thelma Casey, Wilma Hollingsworth and Lolita Cox.He is survived by his wife, Velda Brown of Ojai; his two sons, William Lee Brown and Kenneth Lloyd, both of Ojai; his daughter, Rowena Forde of Tacoma, Washington; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 2 at 2 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 738 E.
