Mary Arreola Mary Arreola, age 64, of Santa Paula, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2008. Mary was born on June 18, 1943 in Gallup, New Mexico to Sabas Cervantez and Isabel Boscas. She was a resident of Ventura County for over 50 years.Her greatest joys in life were her family, caring for her little Logan, gardening, her lifetime collection of elephants, and going to bingo. She also enjoyed spending time at her sister Susie’s house. She especially loved for her girls to sing her favorite song, “The Joy of the Lord is My Strength,” and her boys to read Psalm 91.Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Arreola Jr., her parents, four brothers, three sisters, nieces and nephews.She is survived by her devoted children, Janet Sevilla, Elizabeth and husband Louie Burboa, and Dora Velasquez; grandchildren, Theresa, Kylie, Andrew, Aaron, Falisha and Teddy, all of Santa Paula; sisters, Susie Salazar of Santa Paula, Jenny and her husband Joel Huerta of San Diego County, and Lori Rodriguez of Santa Paula; and brother Johnny and wife Lola Cervantez of Santa Paula. Her loving memory will also be cherished by her numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Funeral services were held on February 21at Life Way Baptist Church in Santa Paula, with interment following at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Garcia Mortuary, 629 S. “A” St., Oxnard, 486-9148.Juan Sandoval MartinezOur beloved father, grandfather, and friend Juan S. Martinez, 52, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2008. He was born on April 1, 1955 in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico to Eleuterio and Refugio.At age 22, Mr. Martinez had an accident that left him a quadriplegic, but being in a wheelchair didn’t slow him down. He was full of life always with a smile on his face; joking, laughing, making sure everyone was okay before him. He will be missed by all who knew and were touched by his uplifting way of living life.Mr. Martinez is now reunited with his brother Gabriel (Pollo) Martinez.He leaves behind his only daughter, Lydia Martinez, and grandchildren, Austin Michael Jimenez, Steven Michael Jimenez, Samantha Marie Alvidres, and James Ryan Wilson. He also leaves his companion of 12 years, Christina Marie Handley; his parents, Cuca and Luty Martinez; his brothers, Ramon, Jose, Daniel and Tony and sisters, Socorro, Maria Elena, Martha, Patricia, Arcelia and Norma; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.“Dad, you are now walking in, through the heavenly gates of our Lord and Savior.”Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22 at 1 p.m. at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, with burial to follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.

EstradaManuel R. “Rola” Estrada, age 77, of Santa Paula, passed away February 17, 2008 following an extended illness. He was born May 8, 1930 in Benavides, Texas, and was a Ventura County resident for 44 years, coming from Texas.Mr. Estrada worked as a foreman for Santa Paula Citrus from 1964 until the packinghouse burned. He then worked for Buenaventura Lemon, Oscar Labor Service and Molina Labor Service, retiring in 1988.He loved playing poker and conquian with his buddy Lusilo Lara “Ojitos” on weekends. He enjoyed scratching off Lotto tickets, and coloring Easter eggs.He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Estela Estrada, his parents, Leandro Sr. and Maria Estrada, brother Ignacio and sister Virginia Estrada, and his in-laws, Nicolas and Maria Villarreal.He is survived by his son, Manuel Estrada Jr. (fiancée Evelyn) and daughter, Maria (husband David) Cavazos Sr., all of Texas; daughter Yolanda (husband Miguel) Rincón, and close friend – considered a daughter – Patricia (husband Robert) Alamillo, all of Santa Paula; brothers Leandro Jr. (wife Hilda) Estrada, Candelario (wife Tules) Estrada, and Hector Estrada, and sisters Margarita Cardona, Maria Ester Ramirez, Ernestina Estrada, and Dominga Rodriguez, all of Texas; sister Tomasita (husband Jesus) Vasquez of Turlock, CA; and sisters-in-law Alicia (husband Paul) Peña and Maria Cantu of Texas. Also surviving him are grandchildren Ana (Rogelio), Irene (Sonny), Rachael (Jimmy), Celestina (Alan), Leanna (Guadalupe), David Jr. (Andrea) and Alicia (Danny), all of Texas; and Daniela (Brook), Janice (Robert), Ryan, Alyia and Mia, all of Santa Paula; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Mr. Estrada was a member of El Santo Nombre at Guadalupe Church. He served as a member of the Board of Directors at Casa del Mexicano from 1980 to 1984.Special thanks to Santa Paula Hospital and Dr. Jeffrey Tubbs, his “T.J. Hippie” for their care and support.Visitation will be on Friday, February 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. for family and from 5 to 6 p.m. for friends, at Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Charles officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del ángel Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. 8th St., 525-5595.
