Lupe A. Brito The Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Santa Paula for former Santa Paula resident Lupe A. Brito, 81. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m., also at St. Sebastian’s, and burial will follow in the Santa Clara Cemetery.Mrs. Brito was born in Los Angeles on September 1, 1926 and passed away in Bakersfield on April 3, 2008. She was raised and educated in Oxnard and at the age of 16 moved to Santa Paula, where she lived for the next 62 years. Mrs. Brito was one of the prime organizers of the “birthday club,” which met monthly to celebrate its members’ birthdays.She was preceded in death by her mother, Hortensia; her brother, Manuel P. Antunez; and her grandson, Brian E. Lister. Her survivors include her children and their spouses, Gloria and Jim Lister of Bakersfield, Debby Lister of Castle Rock, Colorado, and John and Irma Brito of Bakersfield; her sister, Lilia Santoyo; her brothers, Frank Marquez, Carlos Antunez and Albert Antunez; her grandchildren, Ronald, Timothy, Greg, Michelle and Isabella; and her great granddaughter, Sara.In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Brito’s name to the Brian Lister Scholarship Fund at Santa Paula High School in Santa Paula, CA. Arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home of Taft, CA.Marilynn Belle OnstotMarilynn Belle Onstot, 84, passed away peacefully at Santa Paula Healthcare on April 2, 2008, after a long illness.Marilynn was born, raised and lived her entire life in Santa Paula. She was a member of the pioneering Gries and Claberg families, who were prominent in the early development of the Santa Clara River Valley.Marilynn was the quintessential homemaker of her generation, devoted to her family and friends. She was an accomplished equestrian, an incredible cook, and loved to garden.Marilynn’s kitchen was a favorite stop of friends and neighbors. She often prepared cookies, cakes, pies and other pastries for the enjoyment of others.
Marilynn was also an avid sports fan and a strong supporter of USC football. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play high school and college football.After raising her children, Marilynn enjoyed many wonderful years working with the Yamamoto family at Garden Market, and later at Cauch’s Drug. She retired to her home on Say Road, where she lived continually from 1923 amongst her family and friends.Marilynn is survived by her two sons and their wives, Jim and Shirley Onstot, and Steve and Dana Onstot, all residents of Santa Paula; her grandchildren, Mike Onstot, Kristy Viramontes, Jon Onstot, Jeff Onstot and Michelle Onstot; and her great-grandchildren, Jenneca Onstot, Jay Onstot, Nick Onstot, Sidney Viramontes, and Nick Viramontes.A graveside service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity.The family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Santa Paula Healthcare, and to Dr. Michael Swartout and his office staff for their mother’s care over the last few years.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 738 E.
