Alice Pedersen Orcutt
Alice Pedersen Orcutt, 101, of Santa Paula, passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 at the family ranch home of her son, Bill Orcutt, following a lengthy illness. A homemaker, she was born January 21, 1907 in San Francisco, and was a county resident for 48 years, coming from Encino. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Logan Orcutt, in 1971. She is survived by her children, Bill, Marshall, and Mary Alice Henderson; grandchildren, Jennifer Heighton, Jeanne Orcutt, Dan Orcutt, Molly Torres, Sarah Orcutt, Alice Billman and Anne Henderson; and numerous great-grandchildren.Born to Norwegian parents, our mother reflected her Nordic heritage in her blue eyes, flawless skin and indomitable Viking spirit. An excellent rider and crack shot in her early years, she was a country girl at heart but one who easily moved through the sophisticated circles of urban society. A stunning beauty, it was an attribute she carried with rare modesty; she counted among her friends and admirers as many men as women.Fortunate to have a live-in housekeeper while the children were growing up, she was able to devote much of her time accompanying her husband on business trips and motoring travels. Yet when she was home her attention and devotion were given abundantly to her children.Never one to miss an opportunity to go somewhere or do something fun and different, Mother later became a constant companion with one or another of her adult children and their activities. When the grandchildren came, and then the great-grandchildren, she insisted on being “Granny,” which became a term of endearment used by her many friends, young and old, from near and far.
