James Allen Wright James Allen Wright was born on May 21, 1948 and left this world on April 21, 2009 after a very brief illness, a month before his 61st birthday. Jim attended McKevett School, Barbara Webster School, Isbell School and Santa Paula Union High, the class of 1966. He attended Ventura College. He lived in the Upper Ojai for the majority of his life, where he raised his family.Jim had been a landscape contractor since 1968, the result of forming an interest in that field from the experience he had at Wright’s Nursery owned by his father and mother, Sheridan and Virginia Wright in Santa Paula. This early experience was nearly interrupted with two near deployments to Vietnam, as he was in the Marine Reserves stationed at Twenty Nine Palms. These deployments were canceled at the last minute by President Johnson.Besides his family, his biggest love in the world was his outdoor experience for many years in the backcountry of Ventura County, and more recently in Mammoth Lakes, CA. He enjoyed many places like Mt. Whitney.Jim was a 38-year member of the Upper Ojai Ventura County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. He held every position in the team including captain. His dedication and love for the unit and its members was unparalleled. Over the past nine years, Jim was also a valuable member of the Mono County Search and Rescue Team at Mammoth Lakes.By his own admission, the greatest achievement of his life was his family, his beautiful wife and children. He is survived by wife Angela of Mammoth Lakes, CA; Jennifer White and husband Dan, their children Tommy, Seth and Grace of Ventura; Sheridan (Dan) R. Wright and wife Kate of Ojai; Mary Wright of Santa Cruz, CA; and Jeff Wright of Ventura, CA. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Dent and husband Jerry of Gridley, CA; his brother Dr. Tom Wright and wife Rachel of Santa Paula; and cousin Margie Lakin Strikland and husband Bill of Arroyo Grande. Jim also is survived by a niece Susan Lindsay and husband Mike of the Upper Ojai; a niece Margie Wohlers and husband Bob of Running Springs, CA; and nephew Bob Dent and wife Alisa of Ventura, CA; and many grand nieces and nephews in and out of the area.Jim was a great pillar of the Wright family and will be missed beyond how words could ever express.Jim’s service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Soule Park in Ojai, California. Please make memorial contributions to the “Jim Wright Memorial Fund” at Los Padres Bank in Ojai or Ventura, CA.
