Jeanette Cole

December 20, 1940 - September 3, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jeanette Cole, at home, with her family by her side on September 3, 2011.

Jeanette was born in Louisberg, Missouri on December 20, 1940 and came to California with her family in 1954. She attended Santa Paula High School, graduating in 1958. Immediately following graduation she went to work for Coca Cola as an administrative assistant in their Ventura office. On October 5 of that same year she married her high school sweetheart Lecil “Lee” Cole.

In 1960 she began work with Santa Paula Savings and Loan, where she rose through the ranks and was ultimately promoted to insurance agent for the company. After retiring in 1985, Jeanette was able to devote more of her time to helping expand the family’s ranching operations. Her hobbies included creating beautiful one of a kind dolls, quilts, teddy bears, and jewelry that she would give to friends and family. Her grandchildren were her number one priority and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Jeanette also loved to do volunteer work for the Santa Paula Art Museum, California Women for Agriculture, and the Hansen Agricultural Center, where she recently graduated at the top of her class from the University of California’s Master Gardener Program.

Jeanette is survived by her husband Lee Cole, son Guy Cole, daughter Suzanne Cole, and grandchildren Jason Cole, Taylor Cole, Kayla Cole-Savard, and Brook Cole-Savard, all of Santa Paula; as well as her brothers, Paul Moore of Loomis, California and Jerry Moore of Bend, Oregon; and sisters Marlene Lewis of Santa Paula and Bonnie Moore-Christensen of Santa Cruz. She was preceded in death by her sister Marnell Bridges of Santa Paula.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 15 at First United Methodist Church, 133 N. Mill St., Santa Paula. Following the Memorial service, guests are invited to celebrate Jeanette’s life with her family at a BBQ lunch that will be served at the historic Limoneira Ranch, 1141 Cummings Rd., Santa Paula.

In lieu of flowers, the Cole family asks that donations be given to either the Santa Paula Art Museum, 117 N. 10th St., or the Ventura County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture, P.O. Box 795, Fillmore, CA 93016.
