Blanchard School students raise money for cancer research

Students at Blanchard School have raised $1,122.37 to help find a cure for ovarian cancer. Earlier this school year a 1st grade teacher at Blanchard passed away from ovarian cancer. This news was very hard for some of the students and teachers. As a school they decided to raise money to find a cure. They found out that Ovarian Cancer Awareness month happened to be the month of September. So, Blanchard students decided to bring in some spare change during the month to try to raise $1000.00 in honor of Mrs. Robin Brookes.  During the month of September students looked for change under couches, in parents pockets, etc. The students at Blanchard were determined to reach their $1,000 goal. Friday, September 26 was the last day to turn in money to raise awareness for ovarian cancer and determine if the students had reached their goal. Raul Perez  a counselor for Blanchard said, “I am so proud to say that the students from Blanchard School did an amazing job raising $1,122.37. They went over their goal and the students know that money will be used to find a cure for ovarian cancer. They really loved Mrs. Brookes and learned so much from her. Mrs. Brookes will be missed but never forgotten.” Above is Room 2 Mrs. Laureano, transitional kindergarten and right is Room 22 Mr. Valencia and his fifth grade students.
