Two area men were arrested on various charges Saturday following a routine traffic stop by Santa Paula Police.

According to SPPD Senior Officer Allen Macias, the December 27 incident occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m., when “SPPD Gang Investigators initiated a traffic stop in the area of Santa Barbara and 11th streets, on a brown Chevrolet Tahoe,” driven by Andrew Bustos, 28, of Santa Paula.

Once pulled over for the traffic violation Macias said “Bustos was found to have a suspended driver’s license,” and a passenger in the vehicle, Joseph Robles, 45, also of Santa Paula, was found to be on active probation out of Los Angeles County.

In addition, Macias said, “Bustos was found to have been driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage as well,” and based on probable cause, a search of the vehicle was conducted by SPPD personnel.

Bustos was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics for sale along with the illegal transportation of the narcotics that were located concealed within the vehicle.

Bustos was subsequently arrested and later transported to the Ventura County Jail.

Robles was also arrested for violating his terms and conditions of probation and possession of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia.

Macias said the illegal narcotics discovered during the search was “A little under an ounce of methamphetamine,” and pipes used to smoke the drug, considered the worst on the market due to its chemical base and effects on users.

Methamphetamine is known to be highly addictive and can cause the user to act violently towards others.

The methamphetamine discovered was contained in two packages, with a street value Macias estimated to be anywhere from $500 to $1,000.

Macias said the price of methamphetamine depends on the quality and the quantity as well as availability.

A search warrant was obtained for Bustos’ residence and when served later SPPD Investigators did not find additional evidence.
