Over 150 individuals comprised of the farming, education, and business communities came to Camarillo Ranch on May 9th for the Kids-to-Farms Dinner.

The event, hosted by Students for Eco Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) and Boys and Girls Club of the Santa Clara Valley (BGCSCV), was a dinner to raise awareness about the benefits of STEM-based agricultural education, and to celebrate the organizations’ collaborative grade-specific afterschool agricultural education program. The joint program includes both classroom and field trip components that incorporate plants science and comply with STEM (Science, Technology, Education, and Math) Education standards.

Guests enjoyed seasonal and local food and cocktails sourced from Ventura County farms and prepared by Chef Tim Kilcoyne. The benefit raised over $35,000; all of which will go towards supporting afterschool agricultural education through hands-on learning experiences. Of the money raised $18,000 was given to the Boys and Girls Club.

“The Kids-to-Farms Dinner was a special night that kicked off our unique partnership,” said Mary Maranville, Executive Director and Founder of SEEAG, and Jan Marholin of BGCSCV, “but ultimately, and most important of all, this night will benefit the thousands of children we reach each year.”
