Yortis Caples Warman Yortis Caples Warman, age 44, of Seminole, Oklahoma, passed away on November 11, 1999 in Seminole after a brief illness. She was a long time resident of Santa Paula.She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Susan Caples, and one brother, Sherman Caples.She is survived by her son, Chris Caples of California; two daughters, Nicole Stafford and Brandy Curry of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Dillon, Nicholas and Shawna; six brothers, Bob Caples of Nevada, Cecil Caples of Palm Springs, Richard Caples of Taft, Mike Caples of Arizona, Stephen Caples of Tennessee, and David Caples of Bakersfield; five sisters, Roberta McKinley and Cassie Neel, both of Taft, Mary McClure of Santa Paula, Sarah Madden of Artesia, New Mexico, and Donna Lamey of Piru; and numerous nieces and nephews.PHOTOSarah Frutos GarciaSarah Frutos Garcia, age 73, of Santa Paula, passed away November 27, 1999 following a brief illness. She was born September 3, 1926 in Santa Paula.A life long county resident, Mrs. Garcia was a homemaker for 56 years.She is survived by her husband, Ernest Garcia of Santa Paula; daughter Melinda Gomez of Fillmore; son Robert Garcia of Ventura; grandchildren, Robert Garcia and Yvonne Garcia of Santa Paula; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Stella Reyes of San Jose, Minnie Martinez of Lompoc, and Julia Velasquez of Sanger; brothers, Robert Frutos of Oxnard and Victor Frutos of El Rio; and numerous nieces and nephews.Rosary and visitation will be held December 1 at 7 p.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula. Mass will be held at 9 a.m. December 2 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Santa Paula, Rev. James Rothe officiating. Burial is at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Nina Agnes ElmoreNina Agnes Elmore, age 91, of Tulare, passed away Sunday, November 28, 1999. She was born in Nebo, Oklahoma.A homemaker, Nina moved to Santa Paula with her late husband Reece Elmore in 1941, where she lived until four years ago, when she moved to Tulare to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Reda Hope.
She was a life member of the Church of Christ, and attended the Mid Valley Church of Christ in Tulare until sickness kept her from attending. She loved gospel singing, her church, her family, and her home in Santa Paula, which had a yard filled with flowers.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Reda Hope of Tulare; daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Wayne Beeson of Simi Valley; brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Pauline Haragan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Benita Hope of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jerry Beeson and wife Holly of Simi Valley, and Dennis Beeson and wife Marie of Simi Valley; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Samuel Colby, both of Tulare.Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 2 at the Santa Paula Church of Christ, 276 W. Santa Paula St.; interment will be at Santa Paula Cemetery.PHOTOFrank AzcarateFrank Azcarate, age 79, of Santa Paula, died on November 28, 1999 in the V.A. Medical Center in Long Beach after a brief illness. He was born March 26, 1920 in Janos, Chihuahua, Mexico, and was a 78 year resident of California.Mr. Azcarate was a machinist in 1945 when he volunteered to join the Army and fight for his country in World War II. He served as a combat infantry soldier, earning two purple hearts with the 32nd Division, Red Arrow Unit of the 126th Infantry in the Pacific Theater.After being wounded by Japanese machine gun fire that severed his spine, he returned home to a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation in the Veterans Hospital. While there he taught himself saddlemaking, and eventually opened a saddle shop in Santa Paula. In later years he also learned silversmithing and did jewelry making.Mr. Azcarate is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sisters Marie L. Romero of San Luis Obispo, Virginia Velez of Santa Barbara, and Marguerite Schlatter of Sunny Valley; brother R. Charles Obiols of Santa Barbara; and many nieces and nephews.A mass will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, December 1 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Santa Paula, with burial to follow in Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
