Ted Loy Fuqua Ted Loy Fuqua, age 74, of Zillah, Washington, passed away on Friday, December 24, 1999 in Yakima, Washington.Ted was born in Olney, Texas on October 28, 1925 to Claude Cooper and Eula Katherine Fuqua. He was raised and educated in Santa Barbara, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at Point Mugu Pacific Missile Test Center as an electronics technician until his retirement in 1989. He and his late wife, Beatrice, owned and operated the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula from 1971 to 1977.Ted enjoyed computers, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 41 years. Ted also started the Alano Club in Santa Paula.He is survived by two daughters, Claudia Jo Fuqua of Santa Paula and Marsha Catherine Fuqua of Zillah, Washington; five grandchildren, Chad Loy Trego and wife Barbara Ann of Zillah,WA, Keith Alan Trego of Santa Paula, Denman Wesley Hollis of Portland, Oregon, Kyle Cooper Hollis and wife Kelly of Fillmore, and Andrea Loy Douras of Zillah, WA; and three great-grandchildren, Cassandra Beatrice Trego, Karlie Jo Trego and Kobe Alan Trego, all of Zillah, WA.As per his request, no services were held. A memorial potluck was held by his many friends and acquaintances in Yakima on December 30.Clara Myrtle BlantonClara Myrtle Blanton, age 91, of Ventura, passed away January 10, 2000. She was born May 16, 1908 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, one of four children in the Armstrong family. She was a county resident for 58 years.Mrs. Blanton met her husband, Joseph Luftenburg, in Tennessee. They married and moved to Florida. The family moved to Bakersfield in the 1930s, and to Los Angeles in 1936. Mrs. Blanton was a homemaker and mother to three children. They moved to Santa Paula in 1943. She worked as a nurse’s aid at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She loved to fish, and loved the outdoors.She is survived by her son, Neal (Delores) Luftenburg of Ventura; daughter-in-law Carolyn Hendrick of California; grandchildren, Diana Kline of Orange County, Sandra Ward of Nevada, Dale Luftenburg and William Luftenburg, both of Ojai, and Dena Whitcomb of Ventura; and five great grandchildren, Lisa, Jason, Beau, Ashley and David.A graveside service was held at Santa Paula Cemetery January 13 with Dr. Austin Coe officiating.Arrangements under the direction of Charles Carroll Funeral Home, Ventura.Arnold O. JohnsonArnold O. Johnson, of Santa Paula, passed away January 10, 2000. He was born October 8, 1912 in Hawley, Minnesota, and lived over 50 years in Southern California.Arnold was a graduate of Aviation Institute of U.S.A., Washington, D.C. and the Glendale College of Aeronautics. He belonged to the Quiet Birdmen. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he worked 35 years for Lockheed Corp. in Burbank. He was on Lockheed’s first jet flight line, and worked many years as an inspector in Research and Development. He was also president of So. Calif. Air, Inc., and leaves many friends in aviation.As a youth, Arnold was an organist for the Rollag Lutheran Church at Hawley. He played the piano, saxophone and violin, and loved working with his dogs and plants.Arnold was preceded in death by his first wife, Maybelle, and stepdaughter Yvonne Carter. He leaves wife Barbara; stepsons, Charles Carper, and Steven Carper and wife Joan; grandchildren, Paul and Jean Heckman, Dan and Kay Satcher, Robert and Andreea Carper, Gene and Debbie Tietjen, Leslie Smith, Christopher Carper and Jessica Carper; great grandchildren, John Heckman, Steve Heckman, Jacob Blackwell Carper, Adam Blackwell Carper, Timothy Smith, and Carry, Matthew and Kevin Tietjen; beloved cousin Norris Pettersen of Hawley, MN; and brother-in-law Morrie Grey. Friends in Porterville are many, including Marvin and Lila Miller, and Al Quatacker. Friends from Los Angeles are Don Francisco and Bob Anderson, and from Santa Barbara his friend John Koontz. Whipkey, age 79, of Santa Paula, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2000.He was a member of the Church of Christ.He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Mae Scott Whipkey; three children, Peggy Booth of Oxnard, Brady Whipkey of Visalia, and Shannon Whipkey of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Jordan and Kenya of Oklahoma City; five stepchildren, Lois Lucier, Cheryl Couch, Patricia Schmidt, Carolyn Brown and Thomas McDeall, all who reside in Texas; 14 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 276 W. Santa Paula Street.Elsie G. ClarkElsie G. Clark died January 11, 2000 in Davis, CA. She was born June 30, 1901 in Iowa.Mrs. Clark moved to California with her family and attended school, receiving her R.N. degree in 1923. In 1925 she married D. G. Clark, M.D., and lived as a homemaker and community volunteer for 60 years in Santa Paula.She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Nancy C. Kelson. Survivors include her son, R. G. Clark, M.D.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Her memory and devotion will be cherished by her family.Memorial contributions may be made to: Yolo Hospice, P.O.
