Jack Elliott Jack Elliott of Cassville, Missouri, and former long time resident of Santa Paula, died about noon January 17, 2000 in Joplin, Missouri after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty.Jack was retired from Santa Paula Union Oil. He was an outdoor enthusiast and adventurer who loved to travel, spending part of his last days in Mexico where he felt at home and very comfortable.Jack was active in the Golden Harvest Club, the Lions Club, and numerous other groups in Cassville, where memorial services were held. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was fun loving, gregarious, and a good friend. He loved life.Jack is survived by sisters, Virgie and husband Bill Woolston of Bishop, and Margie and husband Paul Mowbry of Santa Rosa; beloved nephew Kym Woolston of Placerville; and numerous other nieces and nephews, as well as good friend Carl Brogan of Santa Paula, with whom he spent a good deal of time traveling, and Carl’s wife Sharon.The family has requested that donations may be made in Jack’s name to the Salvation Army.James “Jake” LewisJames “Jake” Lewis, 67, of Anderson, CA, passed away January 21, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in Redding.Jake was born June 29, 1932 in Booneville, Arkansas, and moved to Shasta County in 1979 from Port Hueneme. He attended Briggs School and Santa Paula Union High School, Class of 1950.He was a firefighter for the U.S. Government at Point Mugu Naval Base, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the VFW Post 9650 and the American Legion in Anderson.Survivors include his wife, Ann; son Richard of Redding; daughters, Jamie Voges of Newbury Park and Kelly Freeman of Anderson; brother Robert of Ventura; and three grandchildren.Services were held January 26 at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Palo Alto, with interment at Cottonwood Cemetery. Bishop Ted Voges of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Redding and the Veterans of Foreign Wars 20th District Honor Guard officiated.Wanda Ben ColemanWanda Ben Coleman, age 69, of Santa Paula, passed away January 27, 2000 in Ventura following a brief illness.She was born December 3, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and was a county resident for 37 years, coming from Chatsworth.She worked as a dietary supervisor at Twin Pines Convalescent Hospital in Santa Paula, and was a loving mother and good friend of many.She is survived by her husband, Floyd Coleman of Santa Paula; daughters, Leslie ( husband, Terry) Gannon of Rough and Ready, CA, and Linda (husband, Jerry) Morgan of Ventura; son William Glenn (wife, Susan) Kirkland of Williams, Oregon; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother Lowell Smith of Simi Valley; and stepson Gary Coleman of Snohomish, Washington.
Graveside services were held January 30 at Santa Paula Cemetery, Rev. Harold Rapp officiating.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Eugene Bert TomasettiEugene Bert Tomasetti, age 79, of Santa Paula, passed away January 28, 2000 following a lengthy illness.Mr. Tomasetti was born July 29, 1920 in California, and was a county resident for 60 years, coming from the Fresno area. He worked for Adohr Dairies as a professional milker.He is survived by his daughters, Gloria (husband, Henry) Marquez of Santa Paula, Priscilla (husband Joaquin) Vega Jr. of Santa Paula, and Martha Altamirano of San Jose; sons, Richard Tomasetti of San Diego, Frank Tomasetti of San Jose, Arthur Tomasetti of San Jose, John Tomasetti of San Jose, and David Tomasetti of Pleasant Hill; 32 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Pete Tomasetti, Tommy Tomasetti, Jimmy Tomasetti, George Tomasetti and Elmer Tomasetti, all of Fresno; and sisters, Gloria Leoni of Fresno, Maxine of San Francisco, Betty Tomasetti of Fresno, Nancy Tomasetti of Fresno, Irene Tomasetti of San Diego and Rosie Tomasetti of Fresno.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Donald Vearl MinorDon Minor passed away on January 14, 2000 at the age of 73. He was born in Vanita, Oklahoma July 7, 1926, and moved to Santa Paula in the late 30s, living most of his life in Santa Paula.Mr. Minor was drafted into World War II out of high school. After the war he worked for the Santa Paula Police Department for five years, and then for Southern California Edison for 35 years.In 1993 he moved to Bishop, CA, where he fished, hunted, played golf, and worked for fun in Culvards Sport Shop to help people.He is survived by his sister, Pat Duke of Florida; daughter Judy Ann Minor of Porterville; son David Minor of Santa Paula; and three granddaughters, Crystal, age 14, Lauren, age 12, and Amy, age 9.Lester E. AllenA memorial service for Lester E. Allen, who passed away January 24, will be held on February 10 at 2 p.m. at the Skillin-Carroll Chapel, 600 Central Ave., Fillmore.
