In addition, a Vons gas station and T-Mobile out let will be added to the center, located in the 500 block of West Main Street.The project should be completed in late November and will include interior and exterior improvements."I want to compliment Vons and its management," said Bobkiewicz. "We started talking to them about 18 months ago and were told it would be four to five years" before improvements were tackled."We brought them up last summer and have working with them ever since to get them to commit to a remodel."Ybarra screened a video - titled Pardon Our Dust - that offered details of the future Vons, including wider variety, an olive bar, more food to go, coffee bar, organic produce and more specialty meat and seafood, among other product improvements."I want to commend Wally, staff and Vons," said Councilman Ray Luna. "I always said that Santa Paula shouldn't settle for less," and the improved Vons should help the city "keep our tax dollars here...this is great for Santa Paula."

Vons, the only major supermarket in Santa Paula, will be the scene of a multi-million dollar remodeling project, the City Council learned at the June 27 meeting.
By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesVons, the only major supermarket in Santa Paula, will be the scene of a multi-million dollar remodeling project, the City Council learned at the June 27 meeting."I'm very happy to announce Vons has decided to move forward," City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz noted as he introduced Santa Paula Vons Manager Frank Ybarra."I hope everyone is excited as I am," and that customers will be patient during the renovation. "It will be a great thing for our city and community."Councilman John Procter asked if Vons will remain open during reconstruction."Yes, we'll be open, just pardon the dust," said Ybarra.Bobkiewicz read a letter from Vons' corporate offices noting that his previous conversations with the company had highlighted several store improvements both in design and product.
