Cardinal varsity boys add another one to the win column

The Santa Paula varsity boys beat Malibu at home this week, 73-54. The Cards played a strong, physical game, forcing the Sharks on the defensive. Santa Paula had an 11-6 edge at the end of the first quarter and, despite an offensive push by Malibu, led the Cardinals led at the half 33-23. The third quarter was very close with Santa Paula only out shooting the Sharks by 3 points. The Cards held on to their lead in the final minutes to take the win.Chepe Lara was the scoring leader for Santa Paula with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals. Daniel Kolbeck hit the basket for 13 points. He also had 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. Andrew Carrera had 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Eddie Marin and Daniel Cardoza each had 5 points.This win gives Santa Paula a 4-1 Frontier League record, with three league games left in the season. They Host Nordhoff tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Cards beat Nordhoff 48-39 in their last meeting on January 17.
