After Terry Brenner-Farrell’s third grade class at McKevett School read of the work schoolchildren were doing on behalf of Hurricane Katrina victims, student Luis Martinez (pictured with check) suggested they “should do something, too.” The class sponsored a penny drive, collecting $362.89. After searching web sites to find “a worthy recipient” for the collection, the class decided to donate to the American Library Association, specifying the funds be used to help rebuild the children’s portion of a damaged library, knowing “how important libraries are to every student in every community.” Photo by Brian D.
