The Friends of the Blanchard Community Library present the Friends’ Annual Fall Festival of Books on Saturday, November 4th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the upper parking lot of the library (north side of the building), 119 N. 8th Street. The purpose of the sale is to have fun, mingle with old and new friends, get great bargains on literally hundreds of books of all kinds... and all profits go to the Library! It’s bargain day for readers! There will be a silent auction from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. of valuable and special interest books. The auction is always exciting, with lots of unexpected treasures and serendipitous finds! All books are bookstore or estate liquidations, donations from the public, or culled (discarded) from the library’s shelves. Categories of books, both hardcover and paperbacks, include: Fiction, Non-fiction, Biography, History, Mystery, Romance, Westerns, Science, Nature, How-To and Self-Help, Travel, Cooking, Computers, Children’s Books, Music, Art, Drama, Foreign Language, Health, Humor, Religion & Philosophy, Gardening, Government, Sports & Hobbies, and more. Also on sale are records, tapes, CDs, videos, puzzles, and magazines. The usual unbelievably low prices are still the best bargain in the county: lots of “Better Books” from $1, all other hardcovers 50 cents each, and hundreds of paperbacks in every category are 25 cents each. Sets are as marked. And at the end of the sale, from 2 to 3 p.m., ALL items are half price!
Members of the Friends of the Library (a legally designated non-profit organization) volunteer their time all year to organize and categorize all donated books, and then both manage and staff their two annual sales, the first Saturdays of May and November. These sales, with the Silent Auction of valuable books, raise an average of $1,800 to over $2,000 each. All monies raised by the Friends go to the Library’s need for new books, equipment, and services. We are especially proud of the popular Children’s and Teen programs, the Homework Center, and the emphasis on computers and the use of the Internet. Among the Friends’ recent gifts were the license and equipment to show movies at the Library, and some needed book carts.Book lovers one and all, on Saturday, November 4th come, have fun, and support our library!
