Ventura’s Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Team Hosts Ventura Channel Challenge

June 7th Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club will host Ventura County’s only outrigger race, The Ventura Channel Challenge, a 12-mile open ocean ironman outrigger race with as many as 70 colorful outriggers in a single race and with spectacular split second finishes.
Over 1,000 paddlers and 28 teams will attend representing California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, and Canada. This is one of 13 races in the SCORA (So CA Outrigger Racing Assoc) region. 390 medals will be awarded in divisions for men, women, and coed teams and age groups ranging from under 16 to over 55 years.Races will start and finish at Harbor Cove Beach at the end of Spinnaker Dr. in the Ventura Harbor (Next to the Channel Islands National Park Museum). Racing begins at 8am and finishes at 2pm. The awards ceremony will begin at 2:30pm. Hula dancers and entertainment will conclude the day’s festivities.
