The Homeowners and Renters Assistance program provides free assistance to individuals who are 62 or older, blind or disabled, and need help in preparing their Homeowner Assistance or Renter Assistance claim forms.

The Homeowners and Renters Assistance program provides free assistance to individuals who are 62 or older, blind or disabled, and need help in preparing their Homeowner Assistance or Renter Assistance claim forms. Assistance will be given by volunteers trained by the Franchise Tax Board, and will be available at the Santa Paula Senior Center, 530 W. Main St., every Monday from 12 to 3 p.m. beginning July 7 through August 25.Homeowners Assistance – This program allows qualified homeowners to receive a portion of the property taxes assessed on their home (once a year) as a reimbursement from the State of California.
Renters Assistance – This program allows qualified renters to receive a portion of the property taxes paid indirectly through rent payments (once a year) as a reimbursement from the State of California (this includes mobile home parks).To qualify for Homeowner and Renter Assistance, a claimant must be 62 or older, a U.S. citizen or designated/qualified alien, blind or disabled, have a total household income under $44,096 for 2007, and pay at least $50 in rent each month (Renter Assistance), which includes Social Security or SSI in addition to all other income. Bring our Social Security form1099, proof of Social Security or disability income, and all other forms showing income for 2007. Your 2007 income tax returns will be very helpful. Homeowners should also bring a copy of their 2007/2008 tax bill. First time filers must bring proof of age, blindness or disability.
