Jeffrey G. Bennett, Ventura County’s newest judge, took the bench on Monday, January 5, 2009 after receiving his oath of office from Presiding Judge Kevin McGee.

Jeffrey G. Bennett, Ventura County’s newest judge, took the bench on Monday, January 5, 2009 after receiving his oath of office from Presiding Judge Kevin McGee. Judge Bennett was elected to the superior court bench on June 3, 2008. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Bruce Clark, who completed his term of office on January 4, 2009.Judge Bennett earned his Bachelors of Arts degree from California State University Sacramento and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Santa Barbara College of Law.Most recently, Judge Bennett had been chief deputy of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Special Prosecutions Division since 2002. Prior to that, he was Chief Deputy District Attorney of the Child Support Operations and Administration Division from January 1999 to May 2002. From May 1994 through 1998, he was Chief Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Bureau of Investigation. During that time, he also managed the Major Fraud Unit. He joined the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office in January 1989 as a deputy district attorney, and became the Major Fraud Supervisor in 1993. He is also a former University of California Police officer and Sacramento County deputy sheriff.
A formal installation ceremony for Judge Bennett will be held on February 20, 2009, in Courtroom 22 at 4:00 p.m.
